During the IIFA Utsavam awards show in Dubai, Rana Daggubati entertained the audience with humorous remarks about Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who was crowned Woman of the Year.
At the recent IIFA Utsavam event, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was honored with the prestigious Woman of the Year award. However, the atmosphere took a light-hearted turn when co-host Rana Daggubati playfully teased her before she stepped down from the stage following her heartfelt speech.
She goes by the name Samantha Ruthless Prabhu.
After being presented with the award by Vicky Kaushal, Samantha delivered a heartfelt speech discussing her return to the industry following a hiatus due to health reasons. Following her speech, Rana playfully remarked, “Samantha’s journey from Tollywood to Hollywood, from my sister-in-law to sister,” eliciting laughter from her.
Rana playfully continued the banter by suggesting that what she considers as cinema is more of a show, citing his learnings from “Family Man.” On the other hand, she emphasized her preference for films akin to “Narasimha Naidu” over those resembling “Rana Naidu,” noting her current focus on fewer Telugu film projects.
Years earlier, he had mentioned his intention to address her using an alternative name. “I’ve known her as Samantha Ruthless Prabhu since childhood,” he reminisced, questioning her whereabouts by asking, “But where did comedy Sam disappear to?” In response, she quipped, “Comedy Sam… controversial Sam. She’s gone to bed; good night.” The show was co-hosted by Teja Sajja alongside Rana.
What is the relationship between Rana and Samantha?
Samantha, unfamiliar to some, was in a marital union with Naga Chaitanya from 2017 until 2021, following a sporadic romantic involvement of a few years. Notably, Chaitanya shares a familial connection with Rana as they are cousins from the Daggubati lineage. It is worth mentioning that Chaitanya is currently committed to Sobhita Dhulipala.
Actor Nagarjuna, Chaitanya’s father, was previously wed to Rana’s aunt, Lakshmi Daggubati, from 1984 to 1990, before tying the knot with Amala. The only collaboration between Rana and Samantha was in the 2016 Tamil movie Bangalore Naatkal, a remake of the Malayalam film Bangalore Days, where Samantha made a cameo appearance.

Rana’s latest appearance was in the Tamil film “Vettaiyan” alongside Rajinikanth. Additionally, he showcased his talent in presenting the Telugu movie “Jigra” featuring Alia Bhatt.
