Embarking on a four-day journey to Singapore, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of Odisha aims to showcase the investment prospects of the state to international investors.
Accompanied by Odisha’s Industries Minister Sampad and various officials from the state government, he made his entrance.
Majhi emphasized to the press before embarking on his tour during the annual Bali Jatra festival, highlighting Odisha’s readiness for business, with a clear message that the state is open for opportunities, reflecting its rich maritime trade history.
The chief minister has announced that his visit aims to showcase Odisha as a top choice for international investments. He highlighted Singapore’s renowned expertise in industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, green energy, logistics, shipbuilding, financial services, electronics, and semiconductors.
Majhi informed the press that they hold a strong foothold in these sectors. He mentioned that the purpose of the meeting is to attract businesses to Odisha, emphasizing that the visit will contribute to the state’s industrial progress and economic advancement.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Odisha would be the top preference for investors considering investing in India. “Our strategy involves engaging with industry leaders to showcase Odisha’s abundant resources, skilled workforce, and favorable industrial policies through a roadshow,” Majhi explained.
Odisha Delegation Heads to Singapore to Secure Investments Ahead of Utkarsh Odisha 2025 Summit
The delegation is set to investigate possible partnerships and opportunities with prominent figures in the industry, investors, and policymakers in Singapore, as per reliable sources. This excursion aims to secure investments in preparation for the forthcoming Utkarsh Odisha 2025 Summit scheduled for January next year.
Meetings will be conducted by the state’s representatives with high-ranking officials in Singapore, as well as engagements with industry groups and the Odia community.
The purpose of the visit, as outlined in an official statement, is to emphasize the investment prospects in Odisha, with a particular focus on its developing infrastructure and key sectors. The key aims encompass presenting the vibrant investment environment and export possibilities of the state, spotlighting the operational capacities of Odisha’s pivotal port facilities at Dhamra, Paradip, and Gopalpur, essential for international trade and commerce.
Furthermore, the tour seeks to gain insights from Singapore’s advancements in technology, particularly in the chemical and petrochemical industries. It also aims to strengthen diplomatic relations and promote cooperation in fields like skill development, technical education, and sectoral expansion.
Exploring esteemed industrial and infrastructure sites like the Jurong Petrochemicals Region, Tuas Port, and ITEES in Singapore, the delegation aims to gather fresh insights and inspiration for applying cutting-edge solutions in comparable facilities located in Odisha.
Odisha Delegation to Meet Key Singaporean Leaders to Boost Investment and Trade Prospects
The official mentioned that the delegation will engage in discussions with key figures such as Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Trade and Industry representatives, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs to share perspectives on investment and trade prospects.
BJD’s opposition, on the other hand, expressed their support for Majhi’s visit to Singapore aimed at attracting investments to the state.
BJD MLA and former industries minister Pratap Deb emphasized the need for the state government to create a favorable environment to retain major investments like ArcelorMittal/Nippon Steel and the JSW EV project, for which the state had previously signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), as he addressed the press.
