Omkar Salvi appointed as RCB’s bowling coach after successful stint with Mumbai

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru men’s team announced on Monday, November 18, 2024, that they have appointed Omkar Salvi as their bowling coach.

Omkar led the Mumbai team to a successful Ranji Trophy campaign after taking over as head coach for the 2023–24 season. He was the team’s bowling coach for four seasons before this.

Omkar, the younger brother of former India bowler Aavishkar Salvi, has also worked as a support staff member with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

“After finishing his Indian domestic season duties, Omkar, who has won the Ranji Trophy, Irani Trophy, and the IPL in the last eight months, is eager to join us in time for #IPL2025,” the statement continued.

He is expected to join RCB after the current Ranji season concludes, which resumes on January 23.

Omkar has only participated in one List-A match for Railways in 2005. He is the younger brother of former India player Avishkar Salvi. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has a contract with him that expires in March 2025.

This will be Salvi’s second IPL stint after his tenure at KKR.

Since the tournament’s inception in 2008, RCB has played in the IPL but has never taken home a championship.
