G20 Summit: UK-India trade talks to be relaunched, says PM Keir Starmer
The Ministry of External Affairs in India noted that the meeting provided fresh impetus to the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Summit in Brazil, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that trade negotiations with India would resume in the upcoming year. With an emphasis on a trade agreement and collaboration in fields including security, education, technology, and climate change, the summit sought to forge a new strategic alliance.
The UK is dedicated to negotiating a trade agreement with India, one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, according to Downing Street. Starmer emphasized that a trade agreement with India will help the UK’s economy and create jobs. Modi also emphasized the significance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK and called the meeting very fruitful.

On the fringes of the Rio de Janeiro G20 Summit, PM Modi met world leaders from Portugal, Italy, and Indonesia.
He met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday to talk about technology, commerce, security, and defense cooperation. Modi emphasized how the friendship between Italy and India may further world progress.
As India and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties, Modi also spoke with President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia. They talked about drugs, healthcare, security, and commerce.
During his discussion with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, Modi talked about deepening economic connections, especially in the areas of green hydrogen and renewable energy. They also discussed people-to-people connections and defense relations.
Modi informed Gita Gopinath, the deputy managing director of the IMF, on India’s progress in eradicating poverty and hunger during the summit. Modi reaffirmed India’s dedication to eradicating poverty and ensuring food security.
US President Joe Biden had a brief encounter earlier, but the specifics of their chat were not made public. At the summit, he also spoke with the leaders of Brazil, Singapore, and Spain.
