Mumbai’s voter count exceeds 1 crore for Maharashtra Assembly polls

Maharashtra Election: Brihanmumbai Municipal Commission (BMC) Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani revealed that Mumbai now has 1,02,29,708 registered voters, which is a rise by 2.91 lakh in the span of six months.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that Mumbai’s voter count had topped 1 crore across 36 assembly constituencies days before Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Mumbai has 1,02,29,708 registered voters, according to BMC Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani’s Monday press conference. This includes 25,43,610 island city voters and 76,86,098 suburban voters. There are 54,67,361 men, 47,61,265 women, and 1,082 transgender voters.

“To encourage voting, several eateries give discounts and some multiplexes offer buy one, get one free tickets,” added Gagrani.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES SINCE LOK SABHA POLLS

The voter count rose 2.91 lakh since the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, while 43,020 names were eliminated. There are 1,46,859 seniors over 85 and 23,928 disabled voters. Additionally, 2,288 foreign and 1,475 service voters exist.

The city has 10,117 polling stations, 2,538 in the island city and 7,579 in the suburbs. Gagrani mentioned 25,696 police officers for election protection. Mumbai has no sensitive polling booths, although 76 crucial booths with historically low voter turnout have been identified.

Mumbai will have 84 model voting booths, 38 administered by women and youth and eight by Divyang (disabled) staff.

Through the C-Vigil app, election officials received 1,238 complaints, including eight poll code infractions in each city and suburban district. Cash, precious metals, freebies, alcohol, and drugs worth almost Rs 350 crore were seized during the election.

Voting for the Maharashtra Assembly elections is on November 20 and counting on November 23.
