Superstar Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan’s recently released film, Vettaiyan, completed a week in theatres. While the action drama registered a phenomenal opening weekend at the box office, the numbers were on the lower side during the weekdays. Due to rains across Tamil Nadu and other areas, the theatre occupancy has not been up to the mark.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan graced the screens on October 10 amid massive anticipation. The film grossed nearly Rs 300 crore gross worldwide in seven days.
In India, Vettaiyan ended Week 1 performance with Rs 118.80 crore nett. On Wednesday, October 16, the film earned approximately around Rs 4.15 crore nett at the domestic box office. Compared to Day 6 numbers, Vettaiyan had a steady collection on Wednesday.
While Vettaiyan took a massive dip during the weekdays, it is to be seen if it will pick up some momentum during its second weekend. On October 16, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 19.34 per cent in India.
Vettaiyan is an action drama with a solid message on extrajudicial killings and educational scams. Directed by TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame, the screenplay is jointly written by himself and B Kiruthika. Produced by Lyca Productions, the film has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
