A surveillance video displayed the late Hamas chief transporting cushions, bedding, a TV, and bags through an underground passage beneath his residence in Khan Younis.

Yahya Sinwar, the ex-leader of Hamas, was observed along with his family navigating a tunnel shortly before an Israeli mission claimed his life in southern Gaza the previous week. CCTV footage revealed Sinwar, now deceased, transporting pillows, mattresses, a television, and various bags through the tunnel situated beneath their residence in Khan Younis, just hours preceding the fateful assault on Israel on October 7 last year.

His wife, on the other hand, was spotted with a $32,000 Hermes bag, as per Israel’s assertion.

Israel alleged that Yahya Sinwar’s wife was apprehended while attempting to enter the tunnels the night preceding the October 7 assault, purportedly in possession of a Hermes Birkin bag valued at $32,000 (Rs 26.88 lakh).

Israel accused Sinwar and his family of shamelessly enjoying a life of luxury while the people in Gaza suffered under Hamas, alleging that they were indulging themselves while sacrificing others.

Israel posted an image capture from the footage showing Sinwar’s spouse clutching a handbag. The unclear photo suggests that the pattern on the bag ‘bears resemblance’ to the Hermes Birkin 40 Black Togo Gold Hardware model. The Palestinian militant faction has not refuted Israel’s assertion.

Israel’s 828th Brigade conducted targeted raids and operations based on intelligence following the death of Sinwar in Rafah, a southern Gaza city. The Israel Defence Forces released footage detailing the damage assessment, revealing assault rifles, snipers, and Sinwar’s body in the hideout.

Photos displayed by Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the Israeli army spokesperson, revealed an underground facility equipped with toilets, showers, and a kitchen. Additionally, the discovery included provisions of food, cash, and various documents.

Sinwar was proclaimed by Hamas to have died valiantly in combat, while they denounced Hagar’s comments as “outright falsehoods”.

Earlier this week, drone footage captured the final moments of Sinwar, who was critically injured and seen hurling an object at the drone. An autopsy later revealed that Sinwar succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head and had also suffered an injury resulting in the loss of one of his fingers.

Sinwar, the elusive target of the Israel Defence Forces during a year of conflict with Hamas, narrowly evaded capture multiple times. However, Israeli forces finally tracked him down to his hiding place by analyzing a tissue he had used to blow his nose, which contained his DNA sample, as revealed by Hagari.

The orchestrator behind the tragic attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which claimed the lives of more than 1,200 individuals, was Yahya Sinwar. This devastating event led to a prolonged Israeli military campaign in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 40,000 people, including innocent children.
