Watch: Rishabh Pant’s Instruction Backfires, Says “Merko Kya Pata Hindi Aati Hai”
Washington Sundar’s decision to follow Pant’s advice, unknowingly captured by the stump mic, took an unexpected and amusing turn.
Rishabh Pant never fails to impress Team India and cricket enthusiasts with his amusing stump mic moments. During the second Test match against New Zealand in Pune, Pant once again showcased his vocal talent from behind the wickets, providing delightful entertainment for the audience. As Washington Sundar made his Test comeback after a long hiatus of almost three years, Pant took it upon himself to share some insights from the crease. Ironically, Pant’s guidance took an unexpected turn when Sundar was promptly struck for a boundary.
When Ajaz Patel stepped in to bat, Sundar had already secured five wickets. Advised by Pant in Hindi to maintain a full and wide line, Sundar followed suit. Ajaz, with Indian roots, then smashed the ball down the ground for four, seemingly understanding and acting on Pant’s guidance.
Pant questioned how he could ascertain Ajaz’s proficiency in Hindi while observing him taking his shot.
Hailing from Mumbai, Ajaz is an individual of Indian descent who resided in India for the initial eight years of his life. Hence, it would come as no shock if Ajaz is proficient in Hindi.
Ajaz seemed to have picked up on Pant’s communication with Sundar through the stump mic, judging by his quick boundary shot following Pant’s signal.
Recap of the 1st Day’s Action in the 2nd Test Match between India and New Zealand
Despite a strong start, New Zealand experienced an unexpected setback towards the end of the day’s play. Initially at 201/4, the team’s batting lineup collapsed to a final score of 259 runs, all thanks to Washington Sundar’s stunning comeback in Test cricket, where he took seven wickets. While Ravichandran Ashwin initiated the breakthroughs by claiming the first three wickets for India, Sundar dominated the New Zealand middle and lower order. Sundar’s exceptional figures of 7/59 precisely equal Ashwin’s personal record for best bowling performance in a single Test inning.
Once again, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra showcased their batting skills by scoring half-centuries each, impressing in New Zealand’s latest match.
